The Kiwi Gun Blog has written to the NZ Press council to ask that their members adopt a new policy in the reporting of firearm offending. To include mention – every time – if the weapon involved was legally owned.

This information is immediately available to responding officers with a single radio call.

It is then immediately available to the press who speak to them.

So there really is no excuse for ever leaving out this very relevant information.

This will then help the readers to decide if licensed kiwi shooters really are a big part of our ‘Gun problem’. Then who really needs the attention of any new laws.

The Kiwi Gun Blog will let you know their response.

The NZ Police Media Centre operates seven days a week to respond to requests from journalists. They have also been asked to include this information in press releases as a matter of policy.

They declined to even reply.

We guess that the public having such information runs counter to the narrative that the Police would have them believe.

If you would like to let them know your thoughts they can be contacted here:

The Kiwi Gun Blog has made a complaint with the Police Standards authority. We will keep pushing here because we need to.
