Once again the Kiwi Gun Blog is receiving numerous reports of different arms inspectors applying different rules in different regions.

Many are asking for lists of ‘A category’ arms.

Shooters have NO obligation to provide this.

Here is the Police excuse:

Police actually have no right to inspect security for A category arms.

At all.

Because no standard other than ‘locked away’ is specified in law (To protect kids, the mentally unwell and casual thieves) there is nothing to inspect.

Shooters have historically LET Police get away with this – because checking security is a good idea. But they have NO RIGHT to ask for lists of A category arms.

If you choose to give them a number of guns owned – fine. But they do not need ANYTHING more than that.

We must not tolerate registration by stealth.
