Firearms Project Community Discussion Sessions

Oh look. The Police are on tour.

We had asked what they were doing to mend the relationship between them and shooters. As was ordered by the Police Minister.

Mike McIlraith chose to treat this as an official information act request.

We are still waiting on the answer.

But this could be result. A good start.

Please attend.

We at the Kiwi Gun Blog will be suggesting “Follow the law” as some feedback.

Firearms Project Community Discussion Sessions

[24 May] In Police’s effort to review and improve the administration of the Arms Act, the Arms Act Service Delivery Group is looking closely at how Police can best deliver firearms related services to the public in a timely, consistent, and cost effective manner.

To assist with this work, the project team are looking to meet with Police district staff and firearms user community members for participatory discussion sessions in all police districts. These sessions are designed in a way that it will enable you to contribute creatively to the current thinking around challenges, opportunities, needs, and wants of the firearms community when interacting with Police for Arms Act related services. We want to hear about any insights you may have from your interaction with the Police and external agencies involved in the delivery of services. We will also take time to understand from you what you think the areas are that we need to focus on, and how we may improve our service model to deliver consistent, timely, and efficient services to you. During the workshop, you will have a chance to ask questions, have open and genuine discussion, and provide any feedback to help us shape our understanding of unique issues in your community.

The schedule of visits is shown below. While the times and dates will remain unchanged, the schedule will be updated with venue locations as we finalise arrangements with venue providers. Updates will be published in this section of the Police website.

All firearms community members are welcome to attend.

  1. As the police are a 24/7 service provider, why can’t these seminars be held on the weekends where more can attend.

    1. The seminars aren’t on the weekends deliberately. If more people are able to attend more people will call out the police in their actions, which they don’t want.

This way they get go say we did our consulting, and have minimum disruption. It’s very calculated and deliberate

I notice for Wgtn they are using the Upper Hutt station. For the Wgtn guys at those times thats a bit of a hike to get there not counting time off work. Why not Lower Hutt or Porirua. If this is an example of the “Service” it’s a rough start. Evenings would have been more amenable I would have thought. Will still go and have a listen. It is a start.

  3. We held ‘consultation’ at various TBA venues around the country – but no one from the Firearms Community turned up!
